His quote, \u201cJust a couple of creatives working towards a goal\u201d stuck with me. I try to do that with every model I work with but on the rarest of rare occasions something rare happens: you become friends with the model. For me, that means getting a bite after a shoot or meeting up when they\u2019re in town just to catch up on things. I made some of my best portraits just shooting candids or selfies during our visits. This is one such photo. We had just finished shooting Lucy and had worked through the dinner hour. We were tired and hungry. We found a place that was still open and serving. The only table we could get was in the patio.
