I found a number of students didn&#8217;t understand why you would want to emphasize grain (or noise) in an image. Even some of the young photographers didn&#8217;t get it. I shared an &#8220;old man&#8221; story about push-processing Tri-X and how the accentuated grain added some grit and character to the image. I don&#8217;t think they saw why that would be desirable. There may be a generational issue at play.
