Look who I met! She had an exhibit this weekend. I got turned onto her paintings on IG and now I had a chance to see her work live instead of on the small screen. Her art reminded me of Leroy Neiman. There’s something about seeing an image, whether it’s a painting or a photo, at a large scale that’s just exhilarating. I was right. She was in a corner with windows on the opposite side. Diffused sunlight streamed in and made the bold colors and rich textures in her work pop. It was a great experience. I especially like her faces. My favorite is her Frida Khalo.  I also had a chance to talk to her. It took a lot of effort to contain the fanboy in me. She’s from out of state and she’s very cool. katetova.com @samsanchezphoto
