The one that got away. I wish I had worked more with her but it was a busy time for me. I was still formulating my pinup concepts and doing a lot of experimenting. This was a fun shoot. I shot this with two lights. I was calculating lighting ratios when I realized I could just shoot a frame and see the results. God bless digital everything. On those rare occasions when I shoot with multiple lights, I best guess the power level and distances and take a shot and adjust to taste. It’s like making lemonade. Add lemon juice and sugar to water. Sample. Adjust to taste. And if you’re wondering, the answer is yes: I still think a model in a hoodie is damn sexy. @samsanchezphoto

Whenever I’m doing office work, I take a break by either grabbing my Strat and plugging in for a wee bit, or editing a photo and writing a short essay. This is the result of my latest break. I wanted to create a ’70s Penthouse feel complete with the color grain you’d see in the magazine. I also wanted to enhance the warmth in her skin tone and the wood in the frame. For some reason, those warm tones always made me fall for the Penthouse models in that era. Wait. This essay is starting to turn into a therapy session. Now, where’s my Strat? @samsanchezphoto

MICHELLE 056

Just a simple monochrome of Michelle. At the time, she was doing a lot of acting and modeling. Today, she’s doing something very different. I wish I had shot the hell out of her. We could’ve created a lot of great pinup work. She had a great attitude and that incredible smile. @samsanchezphoto

I had these three elastic bands that had Velcro strips to hold them together. I don’t remember where they came from but I thought it would make an interesting wardrobe item. The ultra-long Japanese anime socks complete the look. @samsanchezphoto
