One of the cool things in having a model-friend is they often allow you to photograph them at anytime. I was always envious of photographers who were able to photograph their models off-set. Lithium Picnic and Apnea. Conan Sorrano and Mischa. David Bailey and Jean Shrimpton. Tmronin and everybody. Now some of them were couples but I was still envious. I’d think, “Why can’t I make a photo of (insert model name here) and a bowl of ramen! Some guys have all the luck.” So what changed? I did. I was talking to Carina in my office and asked if I could photograph her. She said yes. Now I ask the models I’m working with if I can photograph them off-set. The answer has been yes so far. Now, if I can get them to pose next to a bowl of udon… @samsanchezphoto

Sometimes the photo selects you instead of the other way around. This photo came up after I launched Lightroom. I must have been working on it the last time I was in this catalog which was a while ago. That smile still melts me every time but there’s something about her pose that totally rocks my world. Is it that tube top? The oblique angle? Her legs? The curve of her heel? The angle of her ankle? The twist of her knee? Her flexed toes? Wait. This may be going somewhere unexpected. @samsanchezphoto

BTS: RANDY MOORE 323

This is a BTS (behind the scenes) shot from my shoot with Randy Moore and Jenni. I’ve noticed that models always look like they’re posing even when at rest or during a break. They seem to carry themselves in a way specific to models. A few years ago, Randy contacted me about making the cover of Hustler. I congratulated her and went out to buy a copy so she could autograph it next time she was in town. I thought it would make a nice collectible where I could say, “Hey look! My friend made the cover!”. As fate would have it, I couldn’t find any place that sold Hustler. I went to a number of bodegas and liquor stores but no luck. Damn! Maybe I should’ve tried SFO? @samsanchezphoto

This is actually a close crop of a normal headshot (which I’ll probably post soon). There’s a color version but I thought this worked better in monochrome. I was highly encouraged to post the monochrome because “someone” didn’t like the way “they” looked in pink lipstick. 😃 I never get tired of staring at that face. If I did, I wouldn’t work with her. Imagine a model showing up on set and thinking, “Ugh! You again!? Fine! Let’s get this over with!” Instead it’s more like, “I’m so glad you’re here. It’s an honor to work with you. Let’s make some art before we run out of time.” @samsanchezphoto

AMBER DAWN 135

Another great model I’ve had the honor of working with. She can make hundreds of different expressions and poses with any prop or wardrobe. In this photo, it’s a medical exam gown. The challenge was to make it sexy. Boy, did she! She has it all happening with her beautiful face, gorgeous hair, slamming figure, and great attitude. I was reminded of her when I was recently doing a search for a local nude model. Her page came up. I gotta book her for another shoot. It’s been too long. @samsanchezphoto
