MONOCHROME CHROME: ZIN 2384

A student and I were comparing cameras. He just bought a new Fuji mirrorless camera and I was shooting with my trusty Canon T6i. I wanted to try out the Fuji in my environment: the studio with a monolight. I contacted Zin to do a quick shoot and she said yes. This was the first photo to test for exposure. It was overexposed but I kept it anyways. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the Fuji to work with the wireless flash trigger so I’ll have to test that another time. I initially edited this photo as a monochrome but thought the results were boring. The photo worked when I switched it back to color. Hence the title of this photo. Zin is an aspiring model. I’m looking forward to making more photos with her. @samsanchezphoto

BRAWDIE 2308

This photo reminds me of my photography class in high school. When we were bored, we would shoot each other under the fluorescent classroom lights. Our cameras were loaded with Kodak Tri-X which produced a grainy image. At that time, I hated grain. Today, grain is my friend. I let the image dictate if it’s needed or not. I know that sounds so pretentious but this is the thing I love about shooting digital. I’m shooting every type of film and any ASA up to the limit of the camera. I can make the image look like Kodachrome, Ektachrome, Plus-X, or Tri-X. I made this image look like something from my high school days. @samsanchezphoto

Lauren WK 185

Lauren wearing two of my favorite wardrobe items: a black military duty belt and black utility boots. I have shot a number of models using these and it never bores me. A number of photographers who carry their own wardrobe items retire them after they’ve been used a few times. I like to reuse them because I think every model interprets them differently. @samsanchezphoto

One of the great things about shooting digital is you can revisit old work and easily create something new. This photo didn’t quite work in color because of the patterns, colors, and textures. However, it worked in monochrome with a boost in contrast and grain.  @samsanchezphoto
