THEM BOOTS

This is Mac. We worked together a number of times. Unfortunately for me, she retired. This is one from a hotel room shoot. I normally don’t shoot there because they look like, well, hotel rooms. This time the pinup godesses smiled on me. The room had a ton of warm tones that played nice with her complexion and boots. The light, the room, and Mac all conspired to make a great photo. I just pressed the button on my G11 (god rest her soul). @samsanchezphoto

FIRE DEPARTMENT

I had borrowed a full firefighter suit from a friend for a shoot. I thought it would make a sexy wardrobe with the right model. Jenny made it work. Although it’s missing the red in the suspenders and yellow in the reflective trim, I thought this image worked better as a monochrome. @samsanchezphoto

LIPSTICK TRIPTYCH

This was my idea. I wanted to do my take on the old smeared lipstick idea. It didn’t work out as planned. I discovered that you need a lot of lipstick to make it work. The individual shots didn’t work alone but I thought these three worked well together. Carina’s facial expressions made these shots happen . When I showed her the proofs, she said it looked like she made out with a clown. I’ll have to take her word on that since I’ve never made out with a clown or any other circus performer for that matter. @samsanchezphoto

LAUREN WK 005

I was covering the use of grain in my Photoshop class this week. I found a number of students didn’t understand why you would want to emphasize grain (or noise) in an image. Even some of the young photographers didn’t get it. I shared an “old man” story about push-processing Tri-X and how the accentuated grain added some grit and character to the image. I don’t think they saw why that would be desirable. There may be a generational issue at play. I added grain to this shot of Lauren WK because I thought it looked better. @samsanchezphoto

IS THAT YOUR WIFE?

A student was looking at my web site and asked me that question. I walked over to her and found this photo on her screen. My first thought was, “I wish!” My second thought was, “Wouldn’t that be something!” My third thought was, “I wonder if I could make that work?” All this transpired in one second. I finally answered, “No, she’s a friend and model.” I think that question, this photo, and knowing what a high quality person Rose is started a micro fantasy in my head. @samsanchezphoto
